About This Autumn Patchwork Crochet Scarf Pattern
This autumn patchwork crochet scarf pattern combines rich fall colors, open lace, granny-inspired motifs, dimensional flowers and beautiful crochet leaves into one statement accessory.
The scarf uses burgundy, pumpkin orange, mustard, cream and deep forest green to create a warm patchwork look. Instead of repeating one motif from end to end, the design mixes squares, lace panels and appliqués, giving the finished scarf a handmade heirloom character.
Long multicolor fringe finishes both ends and adds movement without hiding the detailed crochet work.

Patchwork Layout
Prepare enough motifs and lace panels to create a strip approximately 175 cm long.
A suggested layout is:
- Granny lace square
- Open lace rectangle
- Flower square
- Diagonal lace panel
- Contrasting granny square
- Open mesh section
- Flower motif section
- Granny square
- Lace rectangle
- Contrasting flower square
Repeat and rearrange motifs until the desired scarf length is reached.
Joining the Patchwork
Lay all motifs flat before joining.
Rotate some squares diagonally for a less structured appearance.
Using a contrasting yarn color, place two motifs with wrong sides together.
Work sc through both layers along the edges.
For a flatter join, use mattress stitch instead.
Continue joining until one long rectangular scarf is formed.
Filling Small Gaps
The irregular layout may leave small spaces between motifs.
Join yarn to one edge and work short sections of:
*Ch 3, sc into opposite edge*
Repeat until the gap is filled with decorative mesh.
FO and weave in ends.
Adding the Crochet Leaves
Arrange approximately 6-10 maple leaves over the finished patchwork.
Place some leaves completely inside one panel and allow others to overlap a seam.
Using the long yarn tails, sew around the center and main veins of each leaf.
Leave the pointed outer edges slightly free so the leaves remain dimensional.
Adding the Flowers
Scatter small and large flowers between the leaf motifs.
Use cream flowers over dark green or burgundy sections.
Use burgundy flowers over cream or mustard sections.
Sew each flower through its center and lightly tack several petals so they do not fold during wear.
Scarf Border
Join forest green, burgundy or another dark color to one corner.
R1: Sc evenly around the entire scarf, working 3 sc in each corner.
R2: Ch 1, sc around again.
FO.
This narrow border stabilizes all the different patchwork sections.
Long Multicolor Fringe
Cut strands approximately 45-50 cm / 18-20 in long.
Use burgundy, cream, mustard, pumpkin orange and forest green.
Hold 3-4 strands together.
Fold them in half.
Insert the folded loop through a stitch along the scarf end.
Pull the loose ends through the loop and tighten gently.
Repeat across the entire edge.
Add fringe to both ends.
Final Assembly
- Block all individual squares and lace panels.
- Arrange the motifs into one long patchwork strip.
- Join the sections securely.
- Fill any small gaps with crochet mesh.
- Attach the maple leaves.
- Add the dimensional flowers.
- Work the stabilizing border around the scarf.

Blocking
Soak the scarf gently in cool water and remove excess water without twisting.

Straighten the long edges while keeping the patchwork character visible.
Shape the maple leaves with your fingers and open each lace section.
Pin the scarf to approximately 20 cm wide.
Allow it to dry completely before removing the pins.

Yes, but the scarf will become thicker and wider. Try a 4.5-5 mm hook and make fewer motifs to maintain a comfortable finished size.
Repeat the same five or six colors throughout the scarf, block every motif to a consistent width and use one border color around the completed piece.
Yes. This is an excellent scrap-yarn project. For the most cohesive result, keep all yarns close to the same weight and repeat each color in several areas of the scarf.
